Black Shoes for Spring #2 - Hunter Boots

I know, I know...everyone knows about Hunter Boots...blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda whatevs.

Ok, this is for those of you who don't yet actually have a pair.

What is spring without rain boots?  Yes, my first Black Shoes for Spring was rain shoes...but "April showers" anybody?  Yes, they are called that for a reason. Spring is just wet.  (thank you, says my garden)  And some of you lucky ducks may be in perma-warm weather but here outside DC, we most certainly are not.  I think there was a chance of snow in the rain last night...and maybe even tonight or Friday. And sometimes it's just too wet for shoes, you want serious coverage...you want RAIN BOOTS!

But if you can grab a pair of cute $29.99 boots from Target, why should you bother with spending the extra bucks on Hunters?   I'm not going to denigrate fun rain boots...I have a cute pair of hot pink Eprit ones that never fail to garner compliments BUT....they aren't Hunters.

I got my pair in December for my birthday.  My mom gave them to me and my sister (yes, us twinsies in our matching black Hunters) and then she & I gave each other our Welly socks.  It was a Hunter birthday indeed.  I got the black pair but they come in a rainbow of colors and quite a few other styles. But this was exactly what I wanted.  If I had realized how much I would be wearing them ever since, I definitely would have put them at the top of my wish list sooner.  I have been *livng* in them.

What makes Hunters so special?  No, not Kate Moss wearing them to Glastonbury  way back when.  Although that certainly upped the glamour of the brand.

No...they are just the squishiest, comfiest boots I've ever put on.  Really and truly.  I admit, I love a good black boot for tromping around in...makes you feel like a bit of a bad-a$$.  But these...wow...they are actually comfy.  And you all know how rigid I am about mandating comfort in my daily life & wardrobe.  As Coco Chanel said, "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury."  I think that may be my matra.  And trust me, these are so comfy.

How comfy are they?  To give you an indication...I spent a full hour sitting criss-cross-applesause on the floor of a gym.  Quite possibly more comfortable than some of my ballet flats would have been. They just mold and bend however your body, leg, ankle, foot goes.  So you can get a lot done.  And I find myself keeping them on all day, even walking around the house.  Never that "wow, I can't wait to ditch these as soon as I walk into the house" feeling.  I even wore them Friday on a field trip with M's class to Historic St Mary's city...which is basically 6 hours of walking.  They are that good.

So how do you wear them?  In short, with everything.  Thus far, I can't claim to have worn them bare-legged but I'll do that when (if) it ever warms up.  They go with anything..and everything.

At right is just one example, when I wore them last Thursday.  Minnie pants in Tall (I'm taking a 6 now, and they tuck perfectly into the boots and work great with the thick camp socks) and the Cashmere Cabin popover.  In retrospect, the clunky bracelet was too much, esp with the jacket.

Then the navy Quilted Double Breasted Puffer, which I nabbed a few weeks ago on the sale racks, I kinda liked it for $158 but wasn't willing to pay the full price but I really loved it for $60.  And it has a hood!!  And see...the navy totally works with the black pants & boots.  Yep, I think this jacket will see a lot of action this spring.

J Crew May Not Love Me, but Someone Does...

Ok, so I did not get a pair of the Heirloom Flora earrings from Mickey himself. And I am not complaining too much because I did use the free shipping and appreciated it a lot. Plus I am admittedly a JC newbie. I have not been a long time customer, so fair's fair. (this is one of the widely circulated theories, you know.)

However, the lovely, kind, and generous Summerilla did happen to legitimately receive 2 pairs through some crazy Lucy-Ricardo-worthy wackiness with addresses. And she was so sweet to share them with me. I got them in the mail on Saturday and couldn't wait to wear them. They didn't work so well with the pre-planned Sunday shower outfit, so I of course donned them today. I love the the sparkle they add to an outfit.

Wearing today - J Crew cashmere cabin popover (3-PP, I always think of you when I wear this!), white tank, Chicos boyfriend jeans, and braided rope rose gold bracelet. These earrings really are a perfect match to go with the rose gold bracelet or the clementine garden pearl bracelet...and I plan on wearing them with both. And really the muted colors make it work with just about anything.

And it was a nice day to add some sparkle outfit-wise because otherwise it was a bit of a bummer. After a very busy but fun weekend of in-laws in town, lots of indoor time because of the rain, kids running in Young Run race Sunday morning, and then helping host a bridal shower Sunday afternoon, I was pooped.

And oh yeah, poor Lucy's incision from her spay surgery last Monday is infected (4 days of rain + dog tummy surgery recovery = sure infection), so she's now on Clavamox for 10 days, has to wear the cone of shame for the next 7 days, and can't get the stitches out until next Monday. Which means I can't bathe her until then. (yeah, that's what I was really going for) And she has to stay "quiet" with potty walks only. Fortunately, she is suffering from CICD right now - Cone-Induced Canine Depression - which is when wearing the cone of shame will instantly induce depression and lethargy in the peppiest of dogs.

Fortunately for her, she'll have a quiet buddy this week, since M came home from school with 102 fever, dry cough, and headache. Yep, I think I know where this is headed. Will call doctor in the morning...

What does that mean for you? Lots of blogging time for me! I actually caught up on all my blog reading (even if that meant skimping on some commenting), so my Google reader is at 0...at least for the next 15 minutes! I definitely have some posts to catch up on and will start tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Polyvore for today:

Thanks again to Summerilla for the new fab earrings. Time for me to step up my game accessory-wise in the earring department, I think.

Tune in tomorrow for some more generosity...

J Crew Cashmere Cabin Popover - Yes, it is May 26 and I am wearing cashmere

The J Crew Cashmere Cabin Popover (#12525, orig $178, curr $129.99). I first noticed this in one of 3-Penny Princess' Polyvore sets and loved it. Headed over to the Crew site, and sure enough there were Ms & Ls. 3-PP was gracious enough to answer my million sizing questions - and I went ahead and ordered the M, with the 20% off. It fits perfectly! Thanks, 3-PP, you are awesome!!

So imagine my delight, or at least adeptness at the lemons-to-lemonade transformation, when we got 60 degrees and torrential rain the day after Memorial Day. Hmmmm, cashmere today, I think. I have mentioned my love for cashmere, haven't I? Oh wait, it's been so warm lately and I've just been waxing poetic about the boyfriend tissue tees. So cashmere...soft, so soft, really really soft. Mmmmmmm. Ok, I'm done. But still very tactile, clearly.

It really was the perfect sweater today with the weather. Cozy, but not too heavy. And not too sheer, either (I know we've all had our issues with that.) I love the shawl collar and the kangaroo pocket on the front. Very nice details. The cut is slim but not the least bit constricting (in other words, bulge-revealing). The sleeves are 3/4 length, but since the sweater length is longer, they don't give you the dreaded horizontal line right across mid-hip that some 3/4 sleeves do. I anticipate wearing this 3 seasons out of 4.

I paired the sweater with a plain white tank, my outlet matchstick jeans, the Target Samala peep toes, and Anthro initial necklace. (And, to be honest, my garden clogs when I walked to the bus stop to get the kids this afternoon. The rain let up but it was so wet & soggy!)

It was a fun day today. M's class had an Author's Tea this afternoon where they showed us a compilation of a lot of their writing over the year. They had an illustrated story bound, a poetry journal, a bound report on a national landmark, and several other pieces. Very nice. And they all are just so cute. I think when I was in 2nd grade, we were still writing in crayon.

Tomorrow is M's 9th birthday. I hope it will be a good day but E passed out on the sofa right after school and I put her to bed around 6:30 with Motrin and a fever of about 100.5-101. I didn't take the temp, but pulled the mom trick of kissing the forehead. I am accurate within .5 degrees. (M used to spike fevers all the time when he was younger, so I got good at it.)

Here's hoping for better weather tomorrow to pull out the new swingy shirred pique shift. (thanks, Dina!) But oh, the cashmere was so yummy today.
