A Spicy Olive Day

As I sit and ponder over some new purchases at JCrew the other day, I pulled out one new item since I knew for sure it would be a keeper - the Perfect-fit Long Sleeve Crewneck Tee (#18098, online - $24.50 or 2 for $35, in store - $19.50 - pricing monkeys at work again)

I like to stock up on a few new ones each year. This time, I got white, spicy olive, and light berry. I was actually looking at the light berry in the tissue turtle but it was much less "crisp" in color than the perfect fit tee and other light berry items.

Fit-wise, I take an L in the perfect fit tees. I feel like they are still cut close enough to the body, but that gives me breathing room and doesn't show the bulgies so much. I love how long the sleeves and overall length are in this tee. Makes it a great layer under sweaters for warmth.

I started out the day with the tee layered under a JC dress for church. Yes, this looks a lot like the Gap dress I got a couple of weeks ago during the F&F event. But, not so. The Gap dress is a heavy knit and its waistband is about 1 or 1 1/2" higher than the JC dress. The JC dress is wool - it actually came from the lovely dinagideon, who was kind enough to pass it along to me after she got it at the outlets and the lower waist totally did not work for her. Also the JC dress is from HO 08 and it has pockets (and size 8). But yes, very similar shapes and I plan to be able to wear at least one of them every month of the year.

So, spicy olive long sleeve perfect tee, wool shift dress, confetti necklace, Allison Daniel design ring, and cuff link earrings - plus tights and black patent pumps. I was actually so comfortable that I didn't change until about an hour ago.

Why did I change? Honestly, I don't usually love to wear dresses to the movies and I have a date with the girls to go see New Moon. One of the friends pre-ordered the tickets, so we are all set. We'll see how insane the crowd is...

So, for the movies - kept on tee, necklace, earrings, ring. Added dark rinse Chicos jeans, black flats, and this cream sweater. Anyone have any idea what it's called? It's from HO 07. It's so swingy that I actually bought it in the S. I love this sweater. So comfy, such a fun shape - I love the swingy. And it works as long as you have a fitted piece underneath. This would probably work even better with Minnies or skinny jeans, but instead I am wearing the jeans I wore for all day family Tysons outing yesterday because hey - it's a long movie, want the comfy pants. Not to mention the butter popcorn...

I have some thoughts that I've been mulling over about New Moon and the whole Twilight series. Will post later tonight or tomorrow...

Have you seen New Moon yet?

Still Nuts About Navy

Yes, still loving the navy this week. And last week...this post includes last Friday's outfit which did not qualify for the last cardi party post. You know, since it wasn't a cardi and all that... But I think my current navy phase is entirely due to the J Crew classic stripe tissue tee (#20019, $32.50) and the tissue turtleneck tee (#17656, 39.50). They are such great fall pieces - I love the color (navy...duh) and I love the weight - soft but not too-too thin - and they layer up beautifully.

Last Friday, I pulled out my J Crew cashmere femme sweater from last winter. How many of you have this? I love love loved it last year. Love love love it again. I took an M, and if anyone wants to sell an M in another color, let me know. I really should post that on the JCA weekly exchange but well...yeah, I'll get to that. Not much blog reading this week, as it started on a real down note since Lucy was not able to shed the cone of shame. Her stitches came out, but the patch of skin above the incision that had razor burn from them shaving her tummy had gotten infected as well and even though she couldn't get to it by chewing (thanks to the cone of shame), she was able to scratch at it with her back paws - which we realized too late and it started getting worse because she was able to scratch at the (sorry to be so gross) scab to get most of it off, so that infection just continued. At least we did get the stitches out, so we are in 1 more week of cone - and now she needs a tshirt 24/7 to keep her from being able to get at it with her back paws. Funny as it sounds, we both were really down about it on Monday and Tuesday...but we have both adjusted and bounced back. We go back to the vet on Monday and I hope hope hope we will be cone & tshirt free after that. I won't actually ask you to say a prayer for my puppy, but feel free to keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer for my sanity. thanks.

Back to the outfit...honestly, I was looking for another way to show off the JC heirloom floral earrings that the lovely Summerilla passed on to me. I do really like them with the navy. However, just adding the garden pearl bracelet wasn't enough to jazz it up (esp when the bracelet is clasp-forward in the pic). I think the earrings alone were definitely more glittery in person, so I wasn't sure about adding a necklace. But photo-wise, it definitely needed something else. Ah, live & learn...that's one reason I take the pics - I learn from them too.

Then again on Monday, more navy in the form of the tissue turtleneck tee, which I love with jeans and the cami peeking out at the hem. This time I added the confetti necklace, which I really liked with the turtle. I asm so glad I got that necklace. I believe those are the Chicos boyfriend jeans - way comfy for a day where I spent a good chunk of time at the computer working adn the rest of it moping around about the fact that my puppy & I were sentenced to 1 more week of cone-dom.

And on Wednesday...

Striped tee again. Have I worn this once a week since I got it? I'm definitely dropping its CPW (cost per wear) fast. I really could wear this about every other day. Since it was warm on Wednesday, I layered it with my navy short sleeve cardi and then added some necklaces to chunk up the neckline a bit. And I even wore my hair up (just for you FFM), which interestingly enough, works better since I got 2+ inches chopped off the ends.

Where's the navy train headed? I don't know...but much as I love these pieces, black may be taking a more predominant spot for a little while. Why?

Reason #1 - (hello, Halloween on Saturday)

Reason #2 - 212-Sephora polish - funky, but love it - mani'ed it tonight - pics soon, I promise.

And Reason #3, for those of you who haven't seen my Polyvores today/yesterday - this little lovely arrived at my doorstep on Wednesday....

J Crew Selby satchel in black (#18260, $orig $275, black on sale for $149.99) Can you believe I actually didn't have a black purse in my closet? I mean, I'm certainly not a bag hoarder - just a nail polish and mascara hoarder, but I actually didn't have one in black. More on the bag later - it's lovely, must post pics. I will say this - perfect!

Why am I up this early? That crazy puppy is running around the backyard with, I believe, a green tomato in her mouth. At some point, she realized that "balls" grow on the tomato plants by the side of the garage. How convenient for her. (Detached garage in back - no, I don't have tomatoes growing in my front yard. Seriously....) I'd just like to go back to bed since we have kiddie Halloween parties at school tomorrow.

Another Cardi Party?

Must be the season...so today, I inspired myself. (nice going self). Ok, actually I just completely copied a look from almost 3 weeks ago - 10/6/09. As I wrote on my Polyvore, "Wishing I could get an IRL pic but camera is in trunk of hubby's car. Sure I'll be wearing this again, though... So comfy and way cute (IMO)." I literally wore the exact same outfit today. And enjoyed it just as much.

Michele cardi in Beechwood from last year (M), the ubiquitous white tissue bf vneck tee (M) - which is about to get some competition because I just ordered my 2nd open crewneck painter tee in white, and Minnies in coal (8). Plus twisted crystal necklace, its mate from BR that has dangling crystals every inch, Dina hoops, and the crystal shapes bracelet. Speaking of which, did you enter my giveaway for that bracelet? (Not the one I'm wearing, of course, duh.) Deadline is end of the day tomorrow! I love the neutral combo of coal and beechwood with the white tee to crisp it up. When it gets colder, out come the boots, a long sleeve white tee, and maybe a scarf. And Rosa & Gingersnap - just pretend I'm wearing JC toothpicks, ok?

Polyvore from 10/6/09 - and today (seriously, it's exactly the same - I think I need to switch up accessories next time):

Saturday...skip - hubby out of town, not enough sleep, soccer games, Target, rain, etc = Jaspe sweatshirt + jeans + pink rain boots. Not a cardi and definitely not photo-worthy.

Moving right along backwards...Friday - oops, disqualified, not a cardi...save for another post.

Thursday - Nice day - just beautiful. Jackie in spring daisy (M), white ON tank (L, and too big as it keeps stretching out - but their M's are too tight at the hem, need to find another white tank source), and Chicos boyfriend jeans. What else? Confetti necklace, FA07 dog charm bracelet, and cuff link earrings. Done.

Wednesday - bad pics, but great outfit. Need a re-do - which I'm sure will happen as you know I repeat my outfits...often.

Tuesday - Home with sick M and infected Lucy. But at least I tried...This outfit did not photograph that well, but I really loved it in person. Maybe better accessories next time, like my red patent peep toe flats? Tissue stripe flora tee with my charcoal BR Michele-cardi-copy and Chicos slim leg jeans. I really liked the navy-charcoal combo - it might have worked better in the IRL pic with better lighting. Or chunkier necklace action. And I will once again sing the praises for the striped tee - so comfy, so cute, total winner for me. (unless you have a really short torso, and then I'm sorry)

Cream for Cold Weather

I'm talking about the *color* cream, not the milk-based product - which, I think, pretty much works year-round. Cold weather always inspires me to wear these warm shades of white. They just feel cozier. Autumn definitely feels like it has arrived!

Yesterday - yep, pulled out the cashmere for the first time this season. J Crew long sleeve cashmere tee. This is my dressy version of "I feel like hanging out in a sweatshirt." So comfy, not tight (but not too baggy). It just feels good. Layered with a cami or tank of course. Is it me, or do you just assume that you will need an underlayer when wearing light colors on top? Anyway, paired with new Chico's off-the-cuff boyfriend jeans, new cap toe ballet flats, and the classic confetti necklace.

It was a good day because I am now dropped down to chiro only once a week - and hopefully soon can phase out altogether. I will say that it has truly been a lifesaver. My neck and shoulders are better than they have been in several years.

Oh, and that's my new haircut with 2 inches lopped off the bottom. Love love love it. Do you like getting your hair trimmed? Not to go to Britney extremes, but I love the feeling of getting a good chunk hacked off at the ends. And of course, the beauty of hair is that it grows...so if you don't like it, just wait a bit for it to grow out.

Polyvore for yesterday:

Today, again, a nice good chill in the air, so I pulled out a new BR tee that I got yesterday (on sale for $19 in store). Love the gray and white stripes. Look at the way cute gathered cuff (below) - it's brilliant because you get plenty of length in the sleeves but it's not so long that it will drop in your soup. Fab! I definitely anticipate layering it with many sweaters this fall and winter.

And I've layered it with my BR cream sweater jacket from a couple of years ago. I love this sweater - the 60's-ish styling always makes me feel chic. The jacket is hard to photograph well, though. I love it in person, but the pics never turn out that great. And to finish out the outfit, since the tee is nice and long, I wore my gray Minnies and then added black ballet flats. Fun, comfy, and I felt great in it.

Happy Anniversary!

A huge Happy Anniversary to Hubby today...14 years of marriage! Yep, I was only 23 years old when we got married...and we are still happily married today. Happier, I think, as we've both matured together. It was a fun day - hubby and I had a nice lunch out at one of my fave restaurants (J Gilberts in Mclean)...then I went to the office for a meeting. At least the billed time offset the lunch. For dinner, we did fondue at home with the kids - hey, it's not just anniversary for the two of us as a couple but the anniversary of the start of our family...yes, I know that's sappy...but it's true. And fondue is so fun for dinner. We do cheese fondue for dinner - and dip bread, sausage (you know, protein), apples, celery. Dessert is (duh) chocolate fondue. Yum!!!

And it's appropriate that I'm posting on this today because hubby is a wonderful man and really does put up with me. I have been semi-absent from bloggy-land for darn near a week because I have been way overinvolved in house projects.

Let's see...Background: first of all, back in June we got some furniture from hubby's grandmother for E's room. Backing up further, a few years ago we converted the guest room into office for hubby and made E's room the de facto guest room and she sleeps on our floor when we have guests - which is a fun treat, but she's starting to tire of it. (Although sleeping with Lucy on the floor is a huge treat, so we end up with M on the floor in our room as well.) So M had a twin bed and E had a double bed. Eventual plan was to get M bunk beds (summer-ish) and E would have 2 twin beds in her room (my parents have the mate to M's bed).

Fast forward to this weekend. Someone in the neighborhood was selling a fantastic bunk set at an amazing price, and we picked that up for M on Sunday. So we had to clean out, organize, and rearrange his room. This led to the realization that we would have the 2 twins for E, so to pull everything together, I've been out in the garage for days painting her current dresser & bookcase, Grandma's furniture, and the twin bed (still have to do its mate when I get that, hopefully next week). Also had to do a MAJOR clean out and organizing in E's room, as she is an accumulator and saves *everything*. This was also a good time for both kids to do the "do you think you've outgrown this?" test. I collected 4 bags of books plus 2 Leapsters for Dina, several bags of recycling (don't get me started on the paper in E's room), 1 huge bag of trash, and multiple bags for Salvation Army or whoever. And oh, it felt so so so so so good. And I've been cramming mini-clean out sessions in all my other spare time like...counter in the butler's pantry, kitchen linens drawer, bathroom cabinet (still need to do medicine cabinet & counter), etc. I am on a roll.
And Monday, since the bunk beds were set up in M's room, I decided to go ahead and do everything with E's room, so I disassembled her double bed, moved it all to the basement by myself, brought up the 2nd twin mattress & box spring, took the current book case & dresser out to the garage for painting. And I want to have her room mostly re-assembled before brunch on Friday morning here. Yes, I get a bit manic when I am working on a project.

Plus I got the new Dan Brown book yesterday and read that most of the morning today instead of blog-reading/posting. Again, a bit manic when I have a book I've been waiting for.

So instead of the blogosphere, I have been living in a cloud of paint fumes and moving dust. And I haven't even gotten to painting the walls yet. That's supposed to be a late spring/summer project...we'll see if I can wait that long.

See? This is what hubby has to live with. Seriously, he's such a good person. (By the way, if your eyes totally glazed over while reading all that drivel, no worries...common reaction.)
And so I think I'm back to regular blogging. And will be catching up on reading too - I have missed everyone. If you want to read a really lovely post about bloggy friendships, you should check out monogramgirl on A Nantucket State of Mind. I really loved this post...so true, so true.

So where was I? Oh yeah, anniversary lunch... Ok, I'll admit, I did the bus stop in Jaspe sweatshirt and knee pants since I was taking Lucy on a looooooong walk....and um, changed after I got back from getting the kids at the bus stop. But I looked really nice, I swear, in between. White slim stretch shirt and gray Minnies. Plus bronze twig Joleys and the confetti necklace. No bracelets since I was to be sitting at a conference table, although the pearl garden bracelet was awfully tempting (but just too noisy).

Should I have dressed up more? Maybe, but hubby had on a golf shirt and jeans, so I thought I was doing pretty well. Plus I had that meeting to sit through.... And I'll dress up for brunch on Saturday (probably).

Love these Minnies...I think I'll be living in them this fall and winter with boots and sweaters. Just can't decide whether to get the tan or black next. I'm leaning toward the black...

And this....is busted. (that would be E's koala, Fuzzy Wuzzy)

Kids: need to keep doors closed or Lucy steals things.... (I so said that I wouldn't be a door closer when we got a puppy...that she would learn. Hahahahahaha...shows you what I know.)

A Perfect Piece - J Crew Daphne Dress

Don't you love it when you try on something and it really, truly feels perfect? It makes you stand up straighter and hold your head higher. Why then, did it take me so darn long to do an IRL wearing of the J Crew Daphne dress. Longer-term readers of my blog know that I was hemming and hawing about which dress to get back in the spring...and oh, thank you all for your input, this was SO the right decision.

I *finally* pulled it out to wear last Sunday for church. And yes, I did stand up straighter. I added the confetti necklace - I just love this piece - so glad I got it on sale - like pearls but matte, not shiny or iridescent, so they are kinda fun. And then the Joley flats in bronze twig. I felt kinda Mad Men-ish in this outfit. (not pictured is the cream cotton sweater jacket I wore with it since it was chilly - but you know how bad I am about getting a pic of my top-most layer).
This is definitely something I should wear more often. Simple. Easy. Perfect. And that's why I love dresses.

Short Sleeve Cardis This Week

Catching up... let's start with 2 outfits this week - both with short sleeve cardis. Here's today's outfit - the new linen short sleeve cardi that I got at the Tysons JCA event and my new (totally on sale) cafe capris in golden hickory. I am very glad I kept these capris, they are such a fun, offbeat color for a neutral. This cardi is going to be such a fantastic transition piece; right now it's perfect for going over all the tissue bf tees that I have...and today it was a white one. Plus the confetti necklace for more white/cream tonal...whatever. Eh, I felt like wearing it. And I have on my JC fleur de lis flip flops from 2007, I think, which happen to match the pants perfectly.

Yes, me, wearing flip flops and my feet miss being strapped in, especially when I walk Lucy. I am recovering from some major blistering on the back of my left heel that I got Tuesday and then exacerbated yesterday...so flip flops for a few days. Of course, most of my JC flip flops are a couple of years old, so not to be found in PV. No worries, I'll just have barefoot PV sets for a few days.

Polyvore for today:

Here's the other short sleeve cardigan, from Tuesday. I wore my nave blue one with a white shirt underneath. I liked how it worked. A little something different. I paired this cardi with a long sleeve white tee last spring, but hadn't done it with a shirt.
Add in simple matchstick jeans and Danielle flats, plus fireball necklace.

I *started* the day with my Clarks pink peep toes - they started the blister, which yesterday's pre-flip-flop shoes exacerbated. The things we do to ourselves, ugh. Maybe I just need to start buying expensive shoes.
New nail polish on toes - Give Me Moor. Need to post this one - fun color! perfect for fall.

Polyvore from Tuesday:

I only have 2 short sleeve cardis, so that's it for this post. And I promise to get nail color pics up soon.

Confetti + BF + Danielle = Fun!

So you all know what a huge fan I am of the J Crew tissue boyfriend tee. (Did you see plum raisin for fall? Squee, love!) And I love my new Confetti necklace. So imagine my glee when I was looking though some old JC pics and, duh, realized that the previous online pic of the v-neck tissue boyfriend tee shows it paired with the champagne quartz confetti necklace. Fun fun fun! And interestingly enough, I seem to toss on the confetti necklace every time I put on a bf tee lately. They are such a perfect pair - the necklace gives you big bang in terms of statement, but it's still lighthearted & casual from the beads kinda going their own way. And the bf tee is really perfect backdrop for any necklace. And I realized that I wore the Danielle sandals with both outfits, but I think they work nicely with the necklace.

Last Monday, I went with the navy tee. I love this color. Well, I love navy in general, but I really love it in this tee. And I loved it with loose linen trousers (Chicos, Summer 08). And um, yes, these pants are too big for me since I lost the weight, as I bought them in September last year. Maybe I need to take in a few darts at the waist like the linen seaside pants? Or just pony up and actually get a pair of pants that fit? That's honestly the issue - the 2 pairs of pants that fit me best right now (outside of jeans) are both J Crew purchases this season - the Harbour Oxford Capris and the black cafe capris. I think I need to invest in some new pants for next spring/summer.

And speaking of the black cafe capris...this past Monday...um yeah, that was yesterday. Anyway, I popped into the office to meet with a co-worker for a few hours. (Some things are so much easier to do in person!) Easy outfit - bf tissue tee, this time in shell, the black cafe capris, confetti necklace to dress up the tee, Danielles because they are so cute, and Dina hoops. This was my 2nd outing of the cafe capris (still haven't posted 1st one, sorry) and I love love love them. I feel so skinny in them. I feel like Audrey Hepburn. I love them with a simple little tee and I can't wait to wear them with sweaters in the fall.

Update from Yesterday and J Crew Sale Purchases

My parents were in town Wed night through Thurs night/Fri morning, so we, of course, hit the mall on Thursday for the day. (not so much shopping at the river - but that means we shop when they visit, yay!)

Of course, I had to stop in at J Crew to take a little peek around and do a couple of returns. The ripstop utility pants were just awful on me, so they went back. They looked so fab on dinagideon earlier this week. I am wondering if they were just too big, but ah well...back they went. Instead, I snagged a pair of cafe capris. They are just a basic black but I am ridiculously excited by them because I tried these on in way early spring and the 10 just looked awful on me. But yesterday, I tried an 8 and they were perfect. Yay!! And my current black cropped pants are really on their way to the dustbin, so it was a good buy. But I have to say I was rather disappointed in my B&M as there really wasn't much sale merchandise or new merchandise either. Here's my PV set of my JC 20% off purchases.

Final Choices from Latest 20% Off
Final Choices from Latest 20% Off by HeidiGblog featuring J Crew

So you can see that I did re-purchase the confetti necklace in champagne quartz. For $45, it's worth it. I love that they a solid color and not iridescent, like pearls - just a fun change. I love the longer length of this necklace too - it will work with so many tops. And it won't snag my sweaters like the beautiful but evil twisted crystal necklace. And I love that it's the necklace shown with the tissue bf vneck tee, since I am such a fan of that tee. And I did branch out...to the tissue bf *crewneck* tee. BTW, love the neckline on this as it has a bit of a scoop, so it's not strangling you. I may see what other colors I can turn up.

And I did get the pearl garden bracelet in clementine, which I have been coveting ever since A Bigger Closet posted it - love this color! I had it in my cart last week before checking out, but took it out since I figured 1 pair pants, 1 necklace & 1 tee was enough. But it was actually in the store, so it was a sign.

And this is what I wore for the shopping outing. New confetti necklace - yay! And tissue bf vneck tee. And my linen-cotton seaside pants. But I have to say, the pants are making me sad. I think they are too big for me now (ok, I have lost about 10 lbs since I got them). And the linen does stretch out a bit. And you know I practically refuse to wear belts. But they are so loose, flowy, comfy. I think I need to take a couple darts in the waist so they actually stay up and don't fall & give me saggy-bottom. And I really should be wearing it with more fitted tops, actually. Ok, lecture to self on pants over - anyone got anything else?

And here's the Polyvore from Thursday night when we went to the Nationals game with my parents. We had a fantastic time and had great seats! Fun evening out. (Kiddies had a fun evening with their beloved babysitter.) Mom left from the game to head back to the river, Dad spent the night (don't ask, long story involving schedule/calendar mixups). And oops, not enough time for IRL pics. I will get one sometime when I wear the harbour Oxford capris - but I will say they were perfect for the ball game.

Wearing Today and a Tale of Three Necklaces

E is back in school, Lucy seems to be doing better and we were done with our walk before the torrential wind & rain blew through, and M is still healthy {knocks on wood}. All is well.

It is warm and humid...or at least it was, apparently the rain dropped the temp from 88 to 70. But the sunshine is back out.

A good day for JC's ringspun painter tee and linen-cotton seaside pants. And of course, I pulled out the Target Samala peep toe flats - but I am afraid they are done in. I totally tripped while we were walking because, well, I'm not at all graceful and that scuffed off the material covering the whole front of the shoe. It's awful looking. I guess that's what happens when you wear cheap shoes from Target (like I do so often). At least I wore them a bunch before this happened. Still...don't know that I can justify getting another pair if this happens so easily, and hello, I would definitely want to wear them for walking because of the comfort factor. Major bummer.

But enough about shoes for now, let's talk necklaces. The one I'm wearing today is a particular favorite that I got from BR last winter, on sale for about $24.99. I love the mixed metal chains. I love the sparkle on the pendant. I don't love that it will snag the occasional sweater, but I can deal with it usually. It's just a unique fun piece and it looked so fab paired with the Samala pewter flats...which just bit the dust. Oh well. Necklace works with a lot of other things, too.

I have 2 J Crew necklaces to post about as well.

The first is the Cherry Blossom Necklace (#17074, orig $75, curr $49.99). I spied it in the sale jar at checkout last time I was there, in shadow. It also comes in deep rose which looks pretty. I loved the smoke, as I love the smoky quartz look. However, when I came home and tried it on, it seems a little noisy - noisier than I would expect it to be. Pics with black dress and gray tee.

And I also saw this - oops - dent in the tubular bead. If that's how it came home, I worry how easily it can happen again. Guess it's definitely going back.

The second necklace is one I was eyeing in the catalog and in store. And then, when I ordered the 2 dresses with 20% off, I decided to take the plunge, as even just 1 kept item more than justified the 20% off. (My version of J Crew Math, which isn't nearly as entertaining as Paper Bag Princess' J Crew Math)

It's the Double Strand Confetti Necklace (#17075, $98). The beads are a cream color (or rather, champagne quartz), but they aren't pearls. I like that they are a change from pearls. I mean, who doesn't love pearls, but a change in nice sometimes. I think the length is perfect and it can tackle just about any vneck without being too short. And well, I just loved the exuberance of the necklace.

The problem with that exuberance is that IRL, it almost seemed a little too messy for me. Pics with black dress and gray tee.

I am leaning very much toward returning this one. I like it, but don't know that it's worth FP or just 20% off. I think I'll wait this one out. Gigi did a review of the confetti necklace along with some F21 potential subsitutions.

And I can't forget Polyvore set for today:
