Wearing Today and New Nail Polish

Ok, so I am finally slogging through all the blogging I missed over the weekend, and it's slow-going, since I love to read everything. I'm partway through my list. :)

So today I had to do errands, pick up Lucy, bathe her, and do some actual work. It's M & E's 2nd to last day of school - and the last full day, so I wanted to make the most of it. I was so glad to pick up Lucy today - she really is the 5th member of our family and the kiddies are so excited to see her this afternoon. And now she smells very pretty.

So in the AM, I wore my sunbleached flower crinkle tee in caspian blue (aka the "swirly" tee), and as I rightly suspected, I love it with white jeans. And I have on the J Crew braided rope rose-gold bracelet (#17753, orig $48, curr $29.99 online, very pretty)- which I love as well. But I was a little stumped about earrings. I went with a darker gold in earrings. And it will be great with my fireball necklace. So tell me...what colors do you wear with rose gold?

And I would like to thank J Crew for making their bracelets perfectly sized for my freakishly small wrists. My wrists are seriously the thinnest part of my body and so many bracelets - especially bangles are so large on me. JC - Love you, mean it.

Polyvore for today:

And, um, yeah, when it was puppy bathtime - that was outside, with me in a bathing suit, and then I just swapped out for sweats. But I am in fitted, neat, not-sloppy sweats, so hey, it took a teeny bit of effort. But way too lazy, I mean busy, to update pics & Polyvore.

And then some new nail polish...

This is Looking for Love, by Essie, spring 2008 as part of their Mod Collection. Remember how I said that most Essie polishes do weird things color-wise on my yellow-y skin? In this case, it's a good thing. They describe the polish as "a fun alluring pop of sheer lavender." I have on 3 coats here (and yes, took the pic Wed night right after doing the nails, so I haven't cleaned up my cuticles or anything). I love the slight sheerness of the color - it softens the color. I think it's actually paler IRL.

I personally would rename this "cloud" because it can go from blue to lavender to gray like the clouds change, but it's always a soft, subtle color. Not screaming neon pastel. This is going to be a favorite this summer, I can tell already. If you haven't dipped your proverbial toe into the blue/gray polish world, this may be a good way to start. Soft subtle pedi, maybe? Well...I'm loving it.

Yay, welcome back! :) 'You feelin' better? I hope! And I hope that everything went well in NC.

Outfit looks great, as usual! Rose gold is a bit tricky to match, but regular gold should work. Or even silver. The gold (and rose gold) you should wear when you're wearing warmer colors, like yellow, orange or red. And the silver (with the rose gold) with cooler colors like blue and gray.

The nails look fierce! I love it! And your nails (even if you said you hadn't cleaned the cuticles)? They look great!

Oh, did Lucy have any interesting stories about her little kennel adventure? Heehee.

Ok, I'm officially not paying attention and drifting off at work...

3rd paragraph SHOULD'VE read: "The nails look fierce! I love it! And you hadn't cleaned the cuticles? I wouldn't have noticed. They look great!"

Shee.

So now I definitely have to post if you are back posting. :) WELCOME BACK!!! YAY!

I love this outfit on you. I think the white pants look so chic with the top.

I think you should wear the Dina Hoops every single darn day. Why? Well, you know why!

On a more serious note, what about diamond studs? I bet they would look right with just about any other jewelry!

See you soon!

Hope you had a great time away!

I love that tee on you-- very cute. For rose gold I do pearls or diamond studs (real or faux). I kind of think they go with anything and are my go to staple when nothing else seems right. But I realize pearls are not everyone's cup of tea. :)

I love that polish! I really want the light shimmery turquoise OPI for Sephora Lagoon-a Beach, but I'm afraid to go there! Right now I have on Essie Bonds Beige and I looove it! That color looks great on you!

Welcome Back :)

How do you get that pale color to go on so smoothly and evenly? I have a very light pink color (I think it's called "strawberry mist")and I have the hardest time getting it to look right! Any tips?

Drewablank - thanks, feeling much better (after a post-weekend stress killer headache yesterday). I finally feel close-to-normal. Lucy had fun, but won't share any stories with me, can you believe??

Dina - well, I do wear the Dina hoops just about every day, of course!! I tried with my diamond studs and wasn't sure.

Stephanie - I think pearls would be better than the diamond studs, thanks! I have Lagoon-a Beach as well, and this one just works better on me - less shimmery, so it feels a bit more adult. I love shimmer, but not as much on more out-there colors. Does that make sense? The Lagoon-a Beach is fab on E b/c it looks like a Cinderalla color (blue with gold sparkle, basically).

Zoe Moet - I have no idea. I usually do have problems with streaking with Essie creme colors (talking about you, Ballet Slippers, ugh!), but this one was ok. The 3 coats helped, I think. In terms of preventing streaking overall - use base coat, do very thin coats, make sure the polish itself hasn't thickened, and really take the time to do it smoothly (which I almost never do) - those are my best words of wisdom.

Welcome back! Love reading your blog and seeing the cute pics of your outfits and, of course Lucy!

I love the crinkle tee paired with the crisp white jeans. I need to check out that Essie color. Looks very pretty and I like that it is a little something different but not too out there.

Welcome back- it was good to see your post again!

LOVE the outfit and the nail polish!!! :)

Nice to have you back! I have the same bracelet and I love it. I did buy a pair of rose gold hoops and some small studs to match. I would also agree with Stephanie and pair the bracelet with pearls. Great outfit today!

WELCOME BACK!!!!!! you look great in one of my favorite all time tees. I haven't gotten it yet, but it's on my wishlist. I am happy to hear that jcrew bracelets are working for you. I am personally eyeing the new vintage inspired bow bracelet and bow necklace. BTW, I saw the navy in the ruffle dress and it's gorgeous. I do plan to get it and have 3 of the same dress lol.

Ok, I freakin' LOVE that nail polish. I would never have picked that color up, but seeing it on your nails, it looks fabbo. I'll be popping into Ulta to get me some of that!

Joyce said...

Stupid question, but where do you find Essie nail polish? My salon is all OPI and China Glaze.

HeidiG said...

Emily - thank you! I think the sheerness of the Essie color moderates the semi-wackiness of the color, so it works.

MMM - thank you!

Kathy - ok, so where did you get your rose gold hoops & studs? Should I just hit Macys? I think they are having a sale (again).

Patina - so glad you are enjoying that dress so much - it looks fantastic on you. Did you see the bow necklace IRL? I didn't quite understand it from the online pics. Have to check out the bracelet.

Cloggsy - and Ulta is just around the corner, too, how convenient is that? You don't even have to go into the mall entrance (is Chesterfield where Emma got bit? Poor baby.)

HeidiG said...

Joyce - I get it at Trade Secret, Ulta, or Pure Beauty. You can also get it online (but yeah, I like to see IRL) at www.essieshop.com or ulta.com. HTH!

I bought the studs at Macy's. They came on a card with silver, gold and rose gold. The rose and gold were plated over sterling, but they were only $25 for all three. The hoops were harder to find. QVC has a nice selection of rose gold and not many places have that. I did not buy the studs from QVC because I cannot figure out how big they would be by millimeter. Check them out, you can return anything within thirty days, used or not and I have never had a problem.

Yay! You're back and I'm happy to hear you are feeling better! Hope you had a fabulous vacation. Also happy to hear Lucy had a good weekend too but I'm sure she missed you all.

I love the rose gold bracelet - I actually bought it when it first came out but ended up returning it because I didn't know what to wear with it. I'm considering buying it now that it's on sale because its worth it to me now "on sale pretty". I would do pearls or diamonds with it.

I'm loving the nail polish!

Welcome back, heidi! Hope you had fun in my beautiful state :)

Golley, the more I see this shirt on you ladies, the more I waaaant it! If it's meant to be, it will one day go on sale for like, $19.99 and I will snag it, right? :) This looks SO GOOD on you especially with the white jeans.

Oh, and I just love your rhyme at the beginning...."slogging through the blogging" Yep, I'm a huge English nerd--I'll own it. Have a great week!

beautiful outfit! and you are so adventurous with your nail polish and it always looks great. love it :) thanks for the ideas - have a great day!

Kathy - thanks for the info! I'll check Macy's while I'm out today.

Summerilla - I have on the bracelet today with the fireball necklace and Dina hoops (will post later). Love it with the fireball. Definitely on sale pretty!! And if I recall, Montgomery had a few in store.

Outfit of the Day - thank you! I would have settled for 2 thumbs up, but all 10 nails is even better!

AppGal - yes, I like to amuse myself sometimes with rhyming and alliteration as I write. It's a bonus when someone catches it. :)

Cute nail polish. I love that tee on you. I didn't get it, but I tried it on. It cracks me up how much our tastes overlap.

p.s. H&M makes many of their bracelets in 2 sizes - XS/S or M/L.

Welcome back! You look fab in this outfit! I love this tee on you. And I really like the nail polish too! Normally I'm not one for the non-traditional nail colors, but it looks awesome on your nails! It is a good summer color, too. Have a good week!

sparrowsandsparkles, luvallthingsjcrew & 3-PP - thank you!

Gigi - thanks for the H&M info - I'll have to remember that next time I'm browsing at Tysons!

Hi Heidi! So glad to see you back posting and feeling better, too! I love the tee with the white...so crisp and fresh for Summer!

For the rose gold bracelet I would definitely look for studs or hoops in rose gold. You could also wear a silver or gold bracelet on your other arm when you wear silver or gold earrings with it...just a thought...

Love the nail polish...SO pretty! :)

What are your plans when the kiddos are out for the Summer?

HeidiG said...

FFM - thanks for the suggestions! This is our summer - Lake, then River, then home for Camp, Beach, then 3 weeks off before school whish will include at least 1 River trip. My parents live at the River and the Lake is my grandmother's lake house, which is now my mom's since my grandmother passed this fall. So it's play - structure - play. A good mix for the kids.

Oh no! *covers eyes* That navy J Crew t-shirt looks awesome on you! I've been trying to stay away from it, but you might have swayed me to going to the brick and mortar store closest to me to take a peek at it. Just a peek- it can't hurt, right? :D

HeidiG said...

Chloe - totally painless, I swear. You can just look, you know? (yeah, right, we all know how that goes). I do love this tee, I will tell you that.
