Wearing today - pearls, pearls, pearls

Today I was back up at school to help M's class glaze tiles in Art class. It's actually very cool. They are tiles (all with cows) that will go in the Mooseum (yes, that's the correct spelling) in Germantown The Mooseum is a converted dairy barn in the middle of the South Germantown Recreational Park that periodically opens and educates the puble about the heritage of dairy farming in Montgomery County. We do a field trip there each year, which was supposed to be tomorrow, then got moved, and now is up in the air. One of our teachers is very involved in the Mooseum. They have finally gotten enough funding that they are supposed to be doing construction to convert the dairy barn to a full-time museum. And M's grade was chosen to make tiles that will be put up in the Mooseum.

So, what to wear, what to wear. Glazing tiles? Let's go with a dark color. Temps? Still gray/chilly in AM but could warm up. Don't want anything too heavy.

J Crew navy cotton vneck sweater and jeans it is. I am so glad I got this sweater earlier this year. I have worn it just as much as the BR navy vneck that it replaced. (And oh, the BR one sooooo needed to be replaced. It was sad...) For a little color, bright yellow painter crewneck tee and gray patent flats. And then topped off with some pearls - the Target pearl cluster necklace and the F21 long strand doubled. I liked how both necklaces looked together, and I think it worked on such a simple (hehehe, read boring or plain) outfit. And it's not like I'm wearing grandma's heirloom pearls up to art class.

About the gray patent flats...I've discussed these before but that was early on in my blogging life and I have more readers now than I did then so I am hoping someone can help. These flats (accurately depicted in the Polyvore) are from Target last year. One of the many colors that the Xhilaration Sable ballet flat. I love these shoes. The gray patent works with just about everything. And they usually give any outfit a fun, unexpected pop.

So what's the problem? Like I said, I got them last year and wear them a LOT. So you can imagine the wear on them when they weren't the bestest quality to begin with. So here's my plea for help. I am looking for some really simple gray patent flats that are comfy. If anyone has any info, suggestions, sources, I would love to hear. You'll be my new BFF. Seriously. Thank you!

Polyvore set for today:

By the way, when I put together the Polyvore set this morning, I was betting that I would have my hair up at some point in the day. But it's 2:30 and hair is still down, so yay me! Not so lazy today...

You look polished and comfy all at once! I'm wearing pearls, pearls, pearls today too! :) With a navy blue pencil skirt with side ruffles from Anthro and to add a little color (albeit muted), the sateen blazer and the cate patent slingbacks, both in seashell. :) Don't you love how pearls add such sophistication and class to an outfit?

I wish I could get patent flats too...they'd be so useful in such ucky, rainy weather like we've been having lately. :p I'll be on the lookout and let you know what I find. ;)

I bought them in the gray, pink & the gold leather. Yes I am obsessed! I've only had the chance to wear the gold leather ones, but they are super comfy!

HeidiG: I think we are going to a dairy barn with our class...I am actually really excited.

I bought a navy v-neck from Boden today...I hope I can find many things to wear it with.

BTW, have you thought about Boden for grey flats? I don't know if they have them but it's worth a look!

I love your hair in this pic!!!

sparrowsandsparkles - thank you! the tile glazing was fun - it's (almost) always fun helping out at school.

Drewablank - thank you - that's my usual goal each day - polished but comfy. And ooooh, I bet you look fab today! cates = preeeeetty

Kathy - thank you!

kater - thanks, I actually tried those this past winter - I pounced on them as soon as I saw in catalog. But for some reason, they didn't work on me, I can't remember why. And I tried on 2 or 3 different sizes. maybe I should give them another shot - they are awfully cute shoes!! that pink also looks like it would be perfect with just about everything. thanks for the suggestion!!

Anon@6:16 - excellent point about the pewter flats! (so glad you got them too!) They will go with so much. And are great for this time of year, because I will be wearing closed toe shoes less and less. But I do need a replacement for next fall at the very least because these will be just done by then. I guess that gives me the advantage of time to look.

Dina - thank you! I will try Boden, that's a good idea!! And if you can't find anything to wear with the navy vneck, let me know. I'll go back through your posts and make you a list. How about those totally fab cerise pants? And I love navy and pink, so what about the pink chambray cockatail capris with a white blouse underneath? and the madras shorts, maybe? (trying to remember the colors)

Great outfit...I wore that same pearl combo this week, as well, to some work meetings! On the grey flats -- not long ago I found some patent flats at Old Navy. They had them in all colors and I seem to recall they had some grey ones. It was a bit ago but might be worth checking out their web site sale section. Seems to me when I last visited an ON B&M a few weeks ago, they had some of those flats still in the store. Also, I would check out "Bloch" for ballet flats. I saw someone on JCA mention this brand in the post that Alexis put up about J.Crew shoes. I looked online and found it and they have some amazingly cute flats(including grey ones)-- although they look very pricey. You can't actually order them online but find a local retailer that sells them. I sent them an e-mail asking for direction on that. (I am in the DC area, too!) By the way, I am also very happy with my Coralie suede grey flats I bought at the Tyson's BM a month or so ago. They go with everything!

AnneG - thank you -especially since you were the one who sold me the Target necklace - I have been loving it!! thanks for all the info on the gray flats. I will email Bloch! Those Coralies are cute, but the big advantage for me of the patent is the weatherproofiness. (is that a word? I don't think so)

Lissa - I am right there with you - yellow & gray, love!! I'm still wanting that ON anchor tee that was gray & yellow, but I don't even know if they still have it online. My B&M was out.

Love the pearls and the navy/grey/yellow combo for an overcast day!

BTW, I received my star cable sweater in the dark grey color and LOVE IT! Thanks for the inspiration Heidi. :)

A Bigger Closet - thank you! And I can't wait to see you in your star cable sweater - I'm sure it will be gorgeous on you. Isn't so soft IRL???? Enjoy!

Heidi, I don't think I've ever seen the bright yellow ringspun tee on the website, but it looks lovely and bright on you! Now on to the gray flats. I'm not sure how you feel about slingbacks, but I would suggest the cate slingback flats in dusk. I think the color is great and they are very versatile to wear comfortably with dresses, pants, capris, etc; Good luck on your search!

PoseyFord - thank you! and thanks for the suggestion. I really am specifically looking for gray patent - but those cates are so pretty (and I love slingbacks). Unfortunately, I just checked them and they are only available in small sizes. I would be 9 or 9 1/2. But I will keep an eye on them in case my size pops back up. what was the sizing like on the cates? I find I need to size up in most JC shoes because of the toe box.
