Well, It's Better Than Sweats

You know those days that you get up and are still just wiped out because, say for example, your puppy is having intestinal issues and she needed to go out twice last night, which is still better than the alternative, and you just didn't get enough sleep and it certainly wasn't continuous good REM sleep, and your daughter who stayed up way too late on Saturday night is still being a total crankpot and refusing to finish her homework that she *should* have done yesterday but was too tired to? Yeah...that was my morning. And it has inspired me to create a new category, which will now be known as "It's Better Than Sweats". Some people can rock the yoga pants or the Juicy sweats and be cute, adorable, well put together. Usually when I have them on for the whole day, I am sick as a dog or just bone-tired, so I don't have that bright sparkle in my eyes. Therefore, it turns shlubby. Oh seriously, what's up with the dog imagery? I must be tired.

Today...(read above story and just laugh at me... go ahead, you might as well, someone should enjoy it) It was gray and chilly this morning. But I was also going to volunteer at school like I do every Monday, so I felt like a sloppy sweatshirt and grubby sweatpants was not the way to go. For warmth? Beechwood Michelle cardi, cozy but thin enough for May. Tired? Keep everything else simple - white tissue BF vneck tee, jeans, loafers (yeah, totally ditched the Joleys before we went to the bus stop), but amp it up a little with the Dina hoops and the fireball necklace. Maybe if I had more energy, I would have layered another necklace or something, but this was good enough. I do like the crispness of the white tee with the beechwood cardi. Although I will note for the record that I have not yet resorted to my usual lazy-day trick of the ponytail - most likely because I just got it cut last week.

So Polyvore set for today: (again, as I am discovering, the library cardi could very easily swap out for the beechwood Michelle)

No time to nap before bus. Must go make more tea... The Awake tea this time, I think.

I love it, too, Heidi!!!

I totally know what you are talking about, btw, the whole no sleep thing. I am not going to even bother telling people about how many times the kids woke me up last night. Oh, well, they are pretty young, but still.

And you are right...better to take the dog out than face the alternative. Funny!!!

You know who rocks the cute juicy look? Lissa...so adorable!!!

I am with you...I just look like I am going swim coaching which is not a good look for me. ;)

Ahhhh....the michelle cardi in beechwood. Love it!! So versatile, I am SO glad I got this before too late! You look refreshed, at least! Hope your day got better!!

You look very cute and great job making the effort! It's hard to pull it together when you feel like just crawling back in bed. I'm impressed! :)
I hope the pup is feeling better soon and you can go to bed early!

Hmmm...I think your "better than sweats" is pretty much me at my best. I think my "better than sweats" day is more like, "hey, at least I put on a bra and changed out of my Pajamas"

Aw, poor puppy. I don't know what's going on with your dog, but when my dog was having problems of a similar nature, it turned out that her system couldn't handle the food she was eating. She's now on Wellness products, and hasn't had one bout of intestinal upset since....and it's been a year and a half.

I don't know if that will help, but thought I'd throw it out there. Good Luck -- She's a cutie!

Um, your "better than sweats" is better than some people EVER look! I think its definitely important to have those "go to" easy outfits for days where you feel, well - tuckered out. I think you look great!

You did a lot better then I would have. I just kind of pick up what ever smells clean off the closet floor and go with it. If I have to go to work then I might do a wrap dress. Hope you get some much needed sleep tonight!

no matter what goes on in your day, you always look beautful and pulled together. I love your outfit today. It's undetated, classy and elegant.

sparrowsandsparkles - thank you! Key today was to take pic asap after showering and getting dressed before I faded too much. :)

dinagideon - thank you! actually, Lissa is who I was thinking of when I was talking about those who look cute and totally rock the Juicy. I bet you have quite your share of sleepless nights! It's always harder when you aren't used to them. Both of the kiddies went through a spell where, about 6 weeks after they started sleeping through the night, they were waking up again in the middle again. It was worse then when they were newborns and woke up several times a night because our bodies had gotten used to that chunk of straight sleep time. (and by the way, if you look like you are going swim coaching, at least you look like you have a goal in sight!)

mrs.anketell - I agree, I think the beechwood was a good buy for us. I am still waiting for the caffeine to kick in, though. ;)

Stephanie - thank you, and puppy has seemed ok today, so hopefully, we'll get a little more sleep tonight.

Zoe Moet - i can relate to the "hey, at least I put on a bra" days!!

Anon@4:10 - Thanks for the suggestion! Lucy's on Iams Large Breed Puppy food right now, and it seems to have been working fine so far but we're definitely keeping an eye on her.

GingerSnap - thank you - jeans + sweater + cami/tank/tee is repeated so often in my wardrobe rotation, it's almost subconscious. And a clean white tee always perks me up.

Emily - ah yes, a wrap dress - there's a reason why I live in dresses in the summer - they're just so easy!

Patina - thank you for your kind words!

wow, you are a better woman than i...the moment i get home, my sweats come on. it might also have to do with the fact that i'm ALWAYS freezing, so nothing less than full-body sweatsuit will get me warm :)

Love the Michelle cardi. I still haven't worn mine, but you're right...it'll be perfect for a cooler Spring day.

I agree with everyone, you look great!!

I feel like you, I am completely wiped out! I want a free day to do nothing and just sleep in, but I don't see me getting one for a while.

Hope you get some good sleep this evening. Hope Lucy starts feeling better!

AppGal - haha, I am sitting here in my big huge sweatshirt and sweatpants because I was chilly. I always run cold, too. I may have gone with the full sweats today if I hadn't had to go out in public (walking Lucy doesn't count).

Summerilla - thank you! Hope you get a good day of rest soon. I would love to stay up and watch the Caps-Pens OT tonight but I think I am hitting the hay. Lucy seems to be doing better, so here's hoping!!

Hi Heidi...no sleep is a bummer!
I'm NO GOOD without sleep!
You look great despite the poor sleep!
With the dog...he may...as someone suggested above...need a different diet...my dog sometimes has problems when I give him too much people food...he loves cheese..but cheese doesn't love him back sometimes!

HeidiG said...

luvallthingsjcrew - thanks for the suggestions. Lucy actually does not get any people food, as she is still a puppy and I want to be mindful of both her constitution... and her manners, lol!

I think she may have snagged a piece of E's roll that fell on Saturday afternoon, but that's pretty much it. I am actually giving Lucy her first dose of people food this morning for breakfast - rice, because her tummy had some issues last night (although it was better than the previous evening).

Jemma Ruby - thank you! And yep, amazing how much of a boost we can get just by making a little effort.
