J Crew Slub Cotton Pleated Front Tank

One last quick review before the Mickey crewpon expires. The J Crew Slub Cotton Pleated Front Tank (#14948, $29.50). Don't know that I would have gotten this one without the crewpon; I probably would have waited for it to go on sale. But at about $22, I really liked it.

The tank comes in white, light pewter, light turquoise, and navy. I ended up getting the navy for opacity. The light turquoise was so so so pretty, but much more sheer. This is such a breezy lightweight top, and I didn't want to have to wear something underneath. And you can see the model's bra in the close up pic that shows the detail. And I love the pleated detail - very pretty - it's a woven fabric inset in the knit.

Fit-wise, I went with a Medium. I tried the Small, but it (actually, I swear, because this is very rare) pulled at the bust a bit. I can see this looking a little maternity-ish if you are busty, but since that didn't even happen to me when I had each of my two darling children, I didn't have to worry so much about that.

The top is definitely swingy, but still fit fairly close to my sides and then skimmed over my hips. Pardon the IRL pics, and I took it while trying on the new purchases yesterday. Dark jeans really don't do the tank any justice, but I was hurrying. I really see this with white jeans, khakis, cute shorts. Just nothing too full on the bottom. And the detail doesn't really show up in the pic (thus the catalog pics above). For $22, I will really enjoy it this summer.

This tank looks adorable on you Heidi. I was interested in the light blue color in this, but did wonder about the sheerness. I agree it would be shame to have to wear another tank under this cute top. Thanks so much for the information and the review - it's very helpful. :)

Oh your IRL pictures make me want this too. Thanks for posting before I left for the mall. I will definitely be looking out for this one! Last day for the card, OH NO!

That is really cute on you! I saw it on the wall and thought about it... I just have too much similar right now! Thanks for the review... I was wondering how it would look on & it looks great!

I am really ready for opaque clothing to come back in style. I just don't get the sheer trend.

Yeah, I think you're right, it will look great with a contrasting color and something slim on the bottom. I think it would look nice with capris or skinny jeans in a lighter wash or white. Have you tried putting a skinny belt at the waist? That look might be really cute with some short-ish shorts (you have the legs for it!)

Heidi: This tank is super-flattering on you. Wow. :) I think you did very well with your "crewpon," aka "mickey" card.

Your purchases have been fabulous! :) I totally thought this shirt was a "pass," but now I'm rethinking it. But ban starts tomorrow, and I've spent way too much money lately. So no tee for me. :(

Sorry-- had to delete other comment because I hit publish too quickly. I love the tank on you! It doesn't look maternity at all (But I know just what you mean). May I ask how tall you are? I think we are a similar size-- yay! A fit model! :)

It looks great on you. I agree that the turq is very sheer. I am returning the one I purchased for that reason. It's really too bad because it's very cute and the lighter colors show off the pleating detail.

I like the top but not the sheerness factor. Even the navy looks a bit sheer. This is still a pass for me. Cute top. Need it too be thicker.

ABiggerCloset - thank you, and very happy to help!!

Summerilla - I would bet this tank would look really great on you, hope it works or you find something else fab today!

sparrowsandsparkles - thanks! I don't have anything like this with the thicker (i.e. can wear a regular bra with) straps - lots of flowy, strappy camis and plain tanks.

luvallthingsjcrew - thanks! I'm sure you'll post if you luvvee IRL!!

FFM - thank you!

Anon@10:38 - I am right there with you - it gets annoying to have to have a cami/tank for everything.

ZoeMoet - totally agree on the slim bottoms and shorter shorts - wish I had had the time (or made the time) to pair with a better bottom for the pic. I'm not much of a belt girl, but it's worth a try, thanks for the suggestion.

Dina - thank you! Yes, Mickey treated me quite well with his crewpon. Not sure hubby agrees so much, but I'll be better starting tomorrow.

KatyO - yep, shopping break starts tomorrow for me as well.

SeaGlassMom - thank you! I am 5'10". I usually wear a size 10 bottoms, occasionally 8 in a skirt or dress. I wear a M or L (S once in a blue moon) in tops and my sister is always trying to get me to wear more fitted tops, but I hate any bulges.

Gigi - totally agree with you on the lighter colors showing off the detail better (esp in my poorly lit pics at home). They are so pretty, though.

Anon@1:33 - that is an excellent point about even the navy being a bit sheer. I will definitely have to do a final test on light bottoms, etc, before wearing.

Anon@1:42 - You are so kind - thank you, that just made my day!! :)
