So, it's Spring Break and day trips with the kiddies are out this week since we can leave Lucy in the crate for 3 hours, max. (Heard that rule? Age in months = Hours they can stay in crate) So, for a change in scenery, we headed to the River to see my parents. Well, actually just my mom since my dad is working during Tax Season, so he's in Richmond mid-week. It's nice just to be away from home for a few days. And it's so beautiful here.
We are on the Potomac River, right by where it meets the Chesapeake Bay, on the Virginia side, aka "The Northern Neck." The house is right on Judith Sound, which basically opens right to the Potomac, and we can see Maryland across the River on a clear day. I know that, technically, Maryland starts and the edge of the Potomac, but I'm talking about land, people. Sitting out on the dock on a warm, sunny, breezy day is about as close to zen meditation as I get right now, but it certainly does the trick. I'll try to remember to take and post pics.
The downside is that it is cold here. And being right on the water and right out in the open, you can take the regular amount of wind you are getting and jack it up. It's downright blustery. And it's muddy from all the rain over the past couple of days. And when you have a puppy, you need to be outside...a lot. Thus the need for the boots, the parka, that hat & gloves that I just didn't feel like Polyvore-ing.
So here is my Polyvore for what I brought for a few days away.

And then here is my Polyvore for what I *wish* I could have packed for Spring Break. Maybe next time!

Despite the cold, I am so happy to be here. There's such a sense of peace and calm here...until the kiddies are running around hollering and splashing in the water, and then it's just joy. So I am lucky to be here and to have this place to escape to.
Which brings me to the main point - away with the kiddies and trying really hard to disconnect a bit for a few days. I was particularly inspired by FabulousFloridaMommy's post about disconnecting and "just being". Catch you soon!

It sounds like you are going to have a very relaxing time...please post pictures, I'm sure it's just gorgeous :) Save your "wish list" spring break for the summer...and just enjoy the time you have when you have it!
Good to see you're still managing to be fashionable even WITH a new puppy in the mix! Ever since we brought our 'lil Edmund Fitzgerald home last August my wardrobe has consisted only of things that can get dirty, muddy or wet (which doesn't equate to looking polished or put-together in any way, shape or form!) Have fun on your mini-vacation! Sounds like a beautiful spot!
Have fun!!!! I wish I had a Spring Break! I don't even have a long weekend! Gotta wait for my vaca in May. http://isnotfashion.blogspot.com
Even if you couldn't wear the spring break "wish" polvore set, I still think what you ended up packing is cute! I love the tangelo and green tops. Sounds like a beautiful place to relax with your family!
it's sounds so beautiful and relaxing...enjoy.
Have a great time, with your family:)
Good for you, Heidi! Have a wonderful time enjoying your family and relaxing. :)
Thanks for all the well wishes, ladies! We had a fantastic time. So nice to get away. Lucy traveled pretty well in here crate, which is good news, since at full size she won't fit on the back seat in between the kids. Will be posting soon with pics, etc., but currently working on laundry, getting the house together, and puppy class tonight. And I am planning to utilize my packing wishlist the first warm weekend we have!!
I LOVE Spring dressing ...I think it's my fave. Have fun!
Maegan - thanks for visiting! Yes, I am so ready for spring clothes. We had lots of fun, pics to be posted soon.
