J Crew Dressy Jersey Strapless Dress &

A couple of quick reviews since the Mickey crewpon expires tomorrow. Ah, we had a good run, didn't we, little red card? I'll miss you. But my husband won't....

The J Crew Dressy Jersey Strapless Dress (#14982, $78). Love love love. Seriously love. First of all, thanks to sparrowsandsparkles for first posting about this dress and the clutch (which I will get to further down). And also, I am barefoot because I was doing this upstairs while the cleaning ladies were downstairs and was swapping out clothes quickly. Lucy was dozing on the floor of the bathroom.

I live in dresses like this in the summer. And after they are done as dresses, they become bathing suit cover-ups. This one really is constructed better than the usual knit dress with boning at the sides of the bodice, the sticky sticky tape stuff at the top to help it not slide off your skin, and the fantastic & removable halter strap (seriously love that it's removable). I had tried the Sanur dress, and liked it - but this one is really much more me. I debated about the colors for a while. I loved the dark charcoal and the navy, but wondered if I should get a bright. Final decision was to go with the 2 darker colors because (1) they are my 2 fave JC colors, seriously, and (2) they make it look more like a dress, so I think that makes it more versatile. And (3) would be that the darker color makes it easier to get away without wearing a bra on the really really hot days. And since I had the crewpon, which made it under $60 each, I got both. But I will, without question, wear them that much.

Fit-wise - I took a Medium and there was plenty of room, so do NOT size up on this one - go TTS or a little down. I love the length - it goes to the top of my knees, and I think that helps it feel like more of a dress. The detail on the bodice is really pretty, too.By the way, you probably think I am wearing the same dress in both pics. The 1st one, without dress strap or rattan clutch, is the dark charcoal. The 2nd one, with clutch and dress strap, is the navy. Don't worry, I promise to accessorize, unless we literally just got back from the pool and I'm dying of heatstroke and I just need 3 more glasses of water.

And so onto the Rattan Clutch (#14665, $48). Love this. And $36, not too bad of a deal. I don't know about you, but I am tired of clutches that barely fit my BlackBerry and keys, much less my sunglasses - which are vitally important in the summer. Well, actually, year-round for me, but I'm not carrying this clutch in December unless I am on a fab vacation. I took a pic (below right) of what actually fits in the clutch - and I would say, quite a bit. I could choose between my entire huge wallet and BB, or the assortment below - BB, big sunglasses, lipstick, some cards, with plenty of room for keys, mints, mace, whatever you need.

Yay! You know I love it ALL! The dress looks absolutely fabbie on you! Yay!! And I love, too, that the clutch is rattan and structured and holds lots of stuff without it getting squished. I will use it tons too. :)

Completely convinced we shop the same now, I bought this dress in the charcoal and the papaya. I love it! Even though the heat was a bit much I am definitely ready for it to get warm enough to start wearing these pretty dresses!

Summerilla - too funny!! let's see, I have also gotten a white rosette tee and a navy slub cotton pleated tank in the last few days. You? :)

I have a clutch like this that belonged to my grandmother. It is in fantastic condition and I love using it.

I really like this dress. I have a crewpon too but I just am going to wait b/c I seem to be lucky and pick up all my JCRew dresses on super sale later in the season:)

CECE - thank you, but I do think I'll stop at 2, unless they go on mega-sale at some later time.

Julie - thanks, and you are welcome - I was hoping the "stuff" picture would be helpful because I always wonder - it's the darn sunglasses that always trip me up with teeny purses. thanks for visiting!

Anon@4:51 - I think the retro vibe is part of why I like the clutch. That must be very special to have your grandmother's. I have some of my granmother's costume jewelry and it always brings back memories when i wear it. And I will give you my dress list to keep an eye on!! I do agree the price is not the lowest. For me it was worth it, but with your streak, you should luck out again!!

Patina - thank you, and I am right there with you, honey. T minus 1 and counting....

You look gorgeous in this dress. :D

Perfect for you.

The only thing I didn't like was the dress from the side view on me--shapeless. I felt pregnant. Perhaps I should have sized down, per your recommendation.

woo wee! this dress is awesome on you. i have to admit i'm intrigued to try this myself. you know me...the knit dress will suck me in everytime. i only hold back because it's strapless. see, i always end up with the "uni-boob-squish" in strapless dresses (except with my wedding dress, which ended up working).

Very cute on you Heidi! I tried this dress on in-store but it did not fit me at all...even the removeable strap around the neck was loose! I think the darker colors on you is nice, very cute (glad you got both) :)

I think that dress is about perfect. Casual, but could be dressed up.

I did get a rosette tee this week too, mine was in the natural color though. I actually bought it from Ashley. No navy slub cotton pleated tank though... I didn't see that in stores, very cute though. I actually went to the Montgomery Mall store yesterday, thinking I'm going to hit up the Columbia store today.

KatyO - thank you. Sizing down would probably help, a little loose is good, too loose - not so much!

AppGal - thank you, I just figure that when it's really hot outside, I won't care about the uniboob.

Lula Mae - thanks, that's my exact idea for this dress!

Summerilla - Enjoy Columbia, can't wait to see what you find!!

Love the dress on you, Heidi, and I really, really want one of the clutches! I should have ordered it from the red phone last night and didn't...bummer! I was able to get several other great pieces with the Mickey card, though, so I am still happy. Hopefully the clutch will be around for another deal or markdown. :)

Wow, those dresses are amazing on you Heidi. You look stunning! :) Ah, this is bad though because I'm supposed to start a shopping ban and now you've got me thinking (I mean obsessing ;) about these summer dresses...they're just perfect!

Yay for tall reviewers! This helped me decide to order the dress. Hopefully it wil hit me just above the knee also as I hate too short dresses (5'11.5")decided to go with L and hope for a bit extra length as I'm between M and L bur unlike you,I haven't shed my winter padding. You're looking great and even playing with belts now I see congrats!
Love your blog Heidi

The dress looks super good on you. And I love the clutch. I haven't seen it in person, but it's looking good in all the pics I've seen so far.

LOVE the dress on you!

You look fabulous- I will definitely be checkin' this dress out tonight when I head-out to use my "red card" ONE LAST TIME! :( No... I really NEED it to expire!!!

FFM - thank you! This clutch would be so perfect for you living in FL!! Glad you got one good use of Mickey!!

Dina - thanks, I think this is why I didn't get the Sanur when we were trying them on (which I loved on you) - deep down, I knew that a better dress for me would come along. :) I just like the safety factor of the strap!!

ABiggerCloset - Sorry! My "break" starts tomorrow - not using "ban" since I don't want to be too harsh, but I need to take it way down.

Daisy - thank you! I am 5'10", so the length on this should be perfect for you. Hope you love it!!

Gigi - thank you! I am totally digging the clutch and trying to make up an occasion to use it now.

MMM - yeah, I did 1 last trip today after my lunch - dress for E, fireball necklace (squee!), and a painter tee on sale. Bye bye, red card. I need it to expire, too!!

Sorry if I'm late with the posting, but know I understand why you love this dress that much. You look gorgeous!!!

I totally forgot to check out the rattan clutch yesterday when I used the Mickey card for the LAST time (did some serious damage again). Now I have, WHAT? An hour left before the store closes. I don't think I'm going to make it. Bye bye red card ...

Ema - ooooh, can't wait to see what else you got. Bummer on missing the clutch - but honestly, I don't think that $48 is that bad a price without the Mickey card. I love how roomy it is (for a clutch).
