The J Crew Molten Metallic Perfect Shirt

It was Girls' Night last night so I thought that was the *perfect* opportunity to pull out the J Crew Molten Metallic Perfect Shirt (#11623, orig $78, today on FS $49.99 in the metallic khaki). Ok, I paid $52 for it, so that's not far off, but I'm still ticked. And I was in a good mood until I pulled up the web pic. Planning to see about a price adjustment when I go to do returns/exchanges on Saturday morning. (Yep, never made it to JC today, had to go to the office, and office + lunch + commute time = not too long for puppy in crate.)

This was one of my purchases from Sunday's DC JCA private shopping event. And I'll be honest, I don't usually go this shiny. Of course, you've probably figured that out by now if you've been reading my blog. But I loved the metallic khaki because it wasn't quite silver and wasn't quite gold - and molten, oh yes, it's liquid. My adorable SA on Sunday, Joanne was wearing it, and of course it was so fab on her size 0 figure. I decided, eh, why not?! And loved it when I tried it on - the fit was fantastic. The sleeves and overall shirt tail were all long enough. I had enough room in the shoulders but it was still fitted on me. So, I did it. I would like to roll the sleeves next time, but seriously, it was cold last night.

I even checked with hubby last night before I went out & before I cut the tags (was worried he would think it was too much), but he liked it, in "that" way, whatever that means. Hey, I'll take it - he didn't hate it, so that was good!! This shirt also comes in petite and tall, so there's plenty of size variation to fit you.

Honestly, I was planning to wear this with the slate cocktail capris that I got Sunday as well. But when I did pics on Tuesday, I got the "ice cream cone" effect, for you What Not To Wear fans. So I'm going to have to work with the capris to see if they are worth keeping. Plus it was chilly, so I went with dark jeans and my Target gold-ish flats. But I kept the jewelry simple since there was a lot going on with the shirt, shoes, and bag. And the IRL pic is my re-creation this morning because there was no time to take a pic last night (hair was in ponytail last night). Definitely want to try this out with some other pants, too.

It was a fun shirt, and a fun evening. We went to a Peruvian restaurant, La Canela. Very yummy food & drink. Lots of fun conversation with the girls - these are the ladies I was on our PTA Board with last year and we try to keep in touch with semi-regular social outings. Lovely evening, in spite of the weather!

ohhhh, i likey. Another beautiful outfit. You look stunning and I know you received tons of compliments. Heidi, please tell me what the "icecream cone" affect is. I don't think I want to do it, so please stop me before I do lol.

Yeah...what's the ice cream cone effect?

You look smashing in that shirt. I know it's bold, but I think you can even add a long necklace with it, too. Something like J Crew's taj mahal.

ShopDiva - thank you!

Gigi - thank you! I agree that something like the taj mahal would be good - long, a little sparkly, but not too mucy - will have to take a closer look at my necklaces next time I wear this. You always have such great suggestions on livening up my outfits. I did roll up the sleeves on the Atelier yesterday. Haven't posted pics yet.

Ice cream cone effect is common when wearing tapered pants. Your ankles look very small, which people think is very good, except that usually if your ankles look that small, your hips look that much larger. Think of the shape of an ice cream cone, and that's what your lower half would look like. Thus the popularity of the boot cut to balance that out. I didn't actually think the cocktail capris were ice cream cone-ish when I tried on in store, so that's why the pics surprised me. So that means I just need to look more closely.

Hi Heidi...Like Slastena, I have the dark bronze whisper lame and the pale silver one. After seeing you in the camel molten, I'm thinking of adding another. Although I wore my dark bronze for an 80's theme party (with rolled distressed jeans and killer dark bronze shoes), I love them under cashmere sweaters - a bit of sparkle under something classic. They look cute under a denim jacket too. As far as the cocktail capris - I have the slate and love the look. Just keep it simple (your scalloped broadcloth?). I send my vote as a "keeper"!

itztru - 80s theme party? Love it!! I bet both of yours are so pretty. Love the idea of layering underneath cashmere or a denim jacket. Will definitely have to look at that! Sadly, cocktail capris said bye-bye yesterday. But I did get the seaside pants - I think they just work better for my life right now, you know? thanks for the input!
