Well, as I told you last Thursday, I had made it through the "clothes" portion of my closet. I forgot to show you my clean out scraps. So much clutter cleared - 2 trash bags full for Value Village, 6 consignment bags - 2 for last Friday's drop off, 1 for next Wednesday's, 1 for Summer, and 2 for Fall/Winter next year (I guess I'll have to go through them then, but I did enough categorizing).
I haven't done much work on the other stuff in the closet (puppy training takes up a lot of time and don't want her getting *that* interested in my shoes), but I did a quick go through of some shoes, and came up with 1 bag full! Not that's it's categorized yet...
But I still have more shoe boxes, etc. to go through (yes, those boxes peeking out from under the pants each have about 4 pairs of sandals or flip flops in them - clearly I don't wear them all)
Closet Shelf After pic - check out these much more neatly arranged shelves. Look at all that open space! I can find my own clothes now! And you can't shop your closet if you can't find you clothes, can you?

Good job!
Way to go. I have found that a good way to keep sweaters/tees organized on a shelf is to purchase several wicker baskets. They look really beautiful in a closet and help keep the stacks organized and neat looking (even when things are folded perfectly)! Then place the sweaters/tees by color in each basket, so you know exactly where to find everything :)
I was forced to clean my closets when I had new carpeting placed on the 3rd level of my house this month. UGH!!!!!! It was the worst. i found shoes and cloths that I bought to this house 14 years ago that were unworn! Horrible. I know you feel a sense of accomplishment. Now the task will be not to fill up all your new found space. (smile)
Gingersnap had a great idea with wicker baskets. I was going to also offer those wire dividers that I keep saying I'm going to get for myself. The dividers will keep your piles from encroaching on each other. That may make you shelves stay organized longer. Good job! You've been one busy lady!
S&S - thanks!
GingerSnap & Joyce - Yes, I definitely need to find a way to up the cute quotient in the closet, it's so utilitarian now - this was the quickest solution of adding addtional shelves to the builder-installed wire mesh so that I had the space allocated as I wanted. Baskets would be nice. Right now, my method to prevent the encroaching is to make sure the piles aren't too high - another noble goal. Lots to consider, thanks!
ShopDiva-yep, not fill it too much - but now I actually know what I have to I can really figure out what I may need to fill in gaps.
Looks great Heidi! I hope your day is going well and that you're having fun with Lucy! :)
Thanks for the kind words, FFM!!
I've been doing the same thing this week. Little by little clearing out the gunk. Great idea to do before and after pics!
PoseyFord - good for you. Hope you are getting the same cathartic boost that I am. It's fantastic!!!
I am so impressed! Great job with your closet! What a huge mood lifter, isn't it?
so clean! Jealous! http://isnotfashion.blogspot.com
3PP - it felt so great to get that much cleaned out. When I can get to the "nether regions" of the closet and it's all done at once, I'll be really happy. (goal for before 3/29)
Cari - thanks! Love your blog too!
Hi Heidi!
I was wondering if you would mind sharing the consignment shop you go to? I'm in the DC area too, and definitely have a pile of things that I need to get rid of, but it would be nice to get a little something for them. A recommendation from a fellow JCA would be great!
TIA!
Kater - I go to Boomerangs in Gaithersburg. They have appointments for drop off on Wed & Fri mornings. You can leave 20 items at a time. Their number is 301-990-9595 and their website is www.consignatboomerangs.com. HTH!
You've inspired me to clean out my closet. I'm scared to see what I'll find!
SnapHappy - if you find anything as scary as my gardening overalls, please let me know!
