J Crew Slub Cotton Ripple Ruffle Short Sleeve Tee

One last review until I hit J Crew again. The last of the Mardi Gras non-purchases. The J Crew slub cotton ripple ruffle short sleeve tee (#13620, $39.50) comes in 6 colors.

Gigi had a really great review of the tee. She wasn't a fan of the tee on her figure. I like the tee but it didn't totally wow me, at least not for $39.50 when there were other items more worthy of my shopping bag. I tried it on in heather dune.

First of all, I love the length. I also just love the detail around the neckline - it is several alternating layers of the tee fabric and silk in a flat ruffle - very pretty, very nice detail - could look great under a cardi.

I am definitely interested in trying this on again - and this time in the misty lavender. At the time, I just wasn't feeling the lavender yet (it was too cold outside) - and I think the lavender could look fantastic on.

But we need to talk about fit. That's the biggest issue. If you are interested in this tee, size down. I mean really down - way, way down - all the way downtown. (ok, I'll stop now) I have it on here in a medium, and I think I'd like to try on the small next time I go. And I NEVER take a small in their tees. But I'm still not sure I would pay full price for this. We will have to see.

What do you think?

I tried this on in the Extra Small and it was too big, so I will have to pass on this one...too bad, because the neckline is adorable.

Btw...in total agreement about sizing down. I wonder why they made it so large?

FFM - Sorry it didn't work for you, because I agree that the neckline is adorable. No idea why they made it so large - but clearly if a medium looks loose on me, it is!! :)

So HeidiG, are you actually recommending miss me get a size xs because I frequently wear a small top in J. Crew? I have NEVER ever worn an extra-small in J. Crew. SHOCKING!

By the way my word verification is ingrate. I love it! :) Maybe I am being an ingrate questioning vanity sizing...

I so agree about sizing way down. I tried this on and it was way too big. I think most people will be able to size down at least one size if not two sizes in this tee. I can't wait to see you in the misty lavendar. I think it will be so pretty on you!

I sized down to an extra-small, and then it just fit weirdly. And the small was way too big and it fit weirdly too. Maybe I would have dealt with the weirdness if the ruffles were more, you know, ruffly!

Thanks for the review! :)

Dina - yes, go with an XS, you ingrate! :) (but see KatyO's note also)

Emily - thanks for the 2 size down confirmation. I'm looking forward to trying the lavender.

Lissa - all done with "clothes" - Yay! Will probably post today if I'm up to it - I am way dragging. But would love to wait until I get the shoes and outlying shelves done. we'll see..

KatyO - very helpful info, thanks!! sometimes the sizing down works, and sometimes it doesn't. Good thing it's in store so we can try it IRL.
